Types of Account Frauds
Account takeover refers to a user gaining unauthorized access to a genuine account and carrying out illegitimate transactions. A user can obtain illegal access to an account through several ways, such as credential stuffing, phishing, or acquiring credentials via databases or black markets.
Fake registrations occur when fraudsters create new accounts, either by using stolen personal information or creating fake identities (via automated tools or human farms). These fake accounts can then be used for malicious purposes, such as promo abuse or money laundering.See OVO Case Study
